ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH SIGNED FOR DEFY YEAR 5

SEATTLE – Controversy is already brewing as the Ring of Honor (ROH) World Championship is set to be defended at DEFY Wrestling’s YEAR 5 event inside Seattle’s historic Washington Hall on Saturday, February 12.
ROH World Heavyweight Champion Jonathan Gresham will defend the title against Classic Cody Chhun.
Taking the Ring of Honor belt on the road, Gresham is answering challenges from promoters to face some of the best, and most-deserving, up-and-coming wrestlers around the country. Chhun returns to Washington Hall notwithstanding his defeat in a Loser Leaves DEFY match.
At DEFY Mad Kingdom on Sept. 25, 2021, Chhun and partner Nick Wayne challenged DEFY Tag Team Champions The Midnight Heat (Ricky Gibson and Eddie Pearl) to a match after having previously been defeated in underhanded fashion. The champions agreed to the rematch, but added a stipulation; whoever was pinned had to leave DEFY for good. Pearl scored the pinfall over Chhun, unfairly using the ring ropes for leverage.
“Because this is a Ring of Honor sanctioned match, Chhun will be allowed to compete despite his defeat in a loser leaves DEFY match to The Midnight Heat several months ago,” DEFY matchmaker Matt Farmer said. ”Ring of Honor handled the negotiations for this bout, and the contract for the match is a Ring of Honor contract.”
“DEFY is home for me, and I can’t wait to show The DEFYANCE what I’ve picked up during my time away,” Chhun said. “Jonathan Gresham might not know a ton about me. He’s probably overlooking me. And that’s fine. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. I’m counting down the days.”
“We’ve already filed an official objection with DEFY. This is in direct conflict with the agreed upon and contractually obligated stipulation.”
The Midnight Heat, who defend the DEFY Tag Team Championship against The Bollywood Boyz in a ladder match at DEFY YEAR 5, were not pleased. “This is ridiculous,” Gibson said when reached for comment. “Cody agreed to a stipulation, and DEFY’s competition by-laws back us up. Why is he back here? We’ve already filed an official objection with DEFY. This is in direct conflict with the agreed upon and contractually obligated stipulation.”
Farmer said DEFY management quickly overruled the objection by The Midnight Heat. “It’s not a DEFY match,” Farmer added. “It’s a Ring of Honor match. It’s really that simple.”

SEATTLE - DEFY Wrestling celebrates five years of action with two big events in the month of February. Both events, scheduled for Sat. Feb. 12 and Sat. Feb. 26, take place inside Seattle’s historic Washington Hall.

An incredible night of action features a matchup between DEFY Interim World Champion Christopher Daniels and 16-year-old rising star Nick Wayne. This event is tracking to sell out. Daniels, 51, controversially beat Brody King for the title in a recent match by using the ropes for leverage on the pinfall. Afterwards, Daniels told interviewer Jim Valley that, “it’s time for Christopher Daniels to care about Christopher Daniels, FIRST!”
Wayne is a 16-year-old standout who has wowed wrestling fans across the country over the course of the last six months. The son of legendary wrestler and trainer Buddy Wayne, Nick looks to continue the legacy started by his late father as he steps into the ring on Feb. 12 against one of the sport’s most accomplished competitors.

SEATTLE — As 2021 comes to a close for DEFY Wrestling, longtime veteran and current AEW star "Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels captured the Interim DEFY World Championship defeating Brody King in the main event of a stacked DEFY DARK HORSE card at Seattle's historic Washington Hall on Dec. 18.
Due to complications with entering the United States due to Covid-19 restrictions, current DEFY World Champion "The Weirdo Hero" Randy Myers has not been able to defend his title. Daniels and Myers will compete in a unification match at date to be determined.

SEATTLE — After several frustrating months of being unable to cross the Canadian border into the United States, The Bollywood Boyz (Gurv and Harv Sirha) have secured work visas with the assistance of Seattle’s DEFY Wrestling.
Considered to be one of the most accomplished tag teams in the Pacific Northwest, the Vancouver-based duo will finally challenge The Midnight Heat (Ricky Gibson and Eddie Pearl) for the DEFY Tag Team Championship in a highly anticipated match at DEFY DARKHORSE on Saturday, December 18, inside Seattle’s historic Washington Hall at 8 p.m.
“We can’t thank DEFY enough for helping us get our visa issues sorted out,” said Gurv Singh. “Somehow, my visa got tied up in the system, while Harv’s was approved almost immediately. It’s been incredibly frustrating, but now we’re ready to get to Seattle on Dec. 18, give The Midnight Heat a beating, and take the DEFY Tag Team Titles back home with us.”
The title encounter has been rescheduled multiple times, with the champions accusing the challengers of being “too scared” to accept the match. For months, Gibson and Pearl have antagonized The Bollywood Boyz knowing full-well the Singh brothers could not cross into the United States.
The Midnight Heat are the longest-reigning DEFY Tag Team Champions, successfully defending the titles nine times since capturing the belts on Jan. 31, 2020. The long title reign has only emboldened the already crafty champions. The pair continually finds new ways to irritate opponents and fans alike. After accepting a title challenge from Cody Chuhn and Nicky Wayne, they added a stipulation requiring the wrestler who got pinned to leave DEFY. Wayne was then duct-taped to the ringpost, preventing him from making the save when Pearl used the ring ropes for leverage to pin Chuhn.

Introducing the DEFY Interim Championship

News broke early Wednesday, December 1st that a DEFY Interim Championship will be introduced for a match that will take place at DEFY Darkhorse on December 18th in Seattle between number one and two contenders; Christopher Daniels and Brody King.
An interim championship is an alternate title that is awarded by the sanctioning bodies of professional wrestling and in other combat sports such as boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts.
Occasionally, the champion of a particular division is temporarily unable to defend their championship because of medical, legal, or other reasons that are beyond the competitor's control. When this case occurs, two highly ranked contenders may fight for an interim championship of the same division – leading to two champions existing in the same division simultaneously. Once the original champion is able to return, at the discretion of the sanctioning body or promotion concerned, they must defend their title against the interim champion - who will relinquish their interim title in order to fight for the full world title.
Current champion Randy Myers has been unable to defend his DEFY Championship this year due to pandemic-related restrictions. Because of this, DEFY Wrestling championship bylaws came into effect on December 1st and stipulate a mandatory defense of an interim title. Myers will remain DEFY Champion and will meet the DEFY Interim Champion in a future unification bout. When asked for comment, Myers provided the following letter to the Defyance.

(Can we all hope for May or June of next year at the latest?)

September Update: Show postponement, Patreon and more!
As the pandemic continues to make live events legally impossible in Seattle, and because of our commitment to the safety of fans, crew, and talent, we'll be postponing our previously scheduled September 26th event THE DEFYANT ONES to a future date.
Event Postponement - As the pandemic continues to make live events legally impossible in Seattle, and because of our commitment to the safety of fans, crew, and talent, we'll be postponing our previously scheduled September 26th event THE DEFYANT ONES to a future date.
We hope to begin running in 2021, and all tickets purchased for THE DEFYANT ONES will immediately be held over for the big return show with the date to be announced. We encourage the Defyance to allow us to hold over your tickets as refunding everyone at this time will be challenging to accomplish. We want to thank everyone for their support and understanding.
Our Patreon Page is nearing - A few months back we announced plans for a DEFY Patreon and we are finally able to release some details on it! Starting sometime in October it will go live and offer a VIP experience for the Defyance as well as exclusive content.
DEFYANT ONES with KEVIN DIERS - One of the feature benefits of the Patreon page will be our new official DEFY podcast, DEFYANT ONES with Kevin Diers. This show takes you behind the curtain of DEFY and on its initial episodes, catches up with DEFY talent.
New Merch - Annie will be taking your pre-orders later this week on the Defyance Facebook group for a new shirt imagined by Defyance member Manny Morelos!
